Take A Moment…

27 Feb

In life one of the greatest gifts in my opinion is music. Music has the ability to transcend generations, races, and gender, and one of my favourite genres is R&B. This genre, although mainly dominated with songs about love and love making, at times produces music about subjects that truly make you see things in a different light.

Miguel is the perfect balance of these expectations. His album ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’ most definitely has songs about love such as, ‘Do You’ and ‘Adorn’ but the amazing thing is that he balances that with a beautiful song called ‘Candles In The Sun’ which I’m obsessed with. The lyrics are beautiful, the video a piece of cinematic art, his message strong, and his voice haunting.

Enjoy

Lessons…

18 Feb

It’s crazy for me to wrap my head around the fact that before the end of this year I am going to turn 20! What’s even wilder for me to imagine is that a quarter of my life has been spent as a quadriplegic.

Reflecting over the past almost five years, I’ve truly learned soo much about myself. I’ve learned just how fragile life is and how far emotionally, physically, and mentally I can be pushed and challenged.

I’ve learned to accept life for what it is, and I try to learn and grow from the constant lessons, life tends to throw my way.

One of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned is…

“Sometimes the most hurtful thing is the silence of friends, not the words of enemies”

I’ve had to grow apart from some of the closest people to me, and it has been a very painful experience. To go from hanging out, spending every waking hour and entrusting people with your darkest and most private secrets, to having absolutely no contact with them is frustrating and heartbreaking.

I, a few years ago, could not begin to picture my life without them.

Some people might wonder what happened between us. Up until recently, I often asked myself the same question.

Fortunately after many years and a great deal of growth, I’ve finally had closure and an understanding regarding those relationships.

During the most difficult times in my life, that’s when I needed my friends the most. Unfortunately some people in my life couldn’t step up to the plate. It’s not that they said anything ill towards me, or spread rumors behind my back, it’s their silence that killed our friendship.

Their disappearance, lack of support and lack of compassion was bewildering. When I did see them, it was as if I was staring at a stranger. I began to slowly recognize the distance in our relationship and it regrettably took me a long time to let them go. Don’t get me wrong I don’t expect the world from my friends, I just expected them to be what they should be, a friend.

Through that painful and long lesson, I’ve learned to value the friends I have in my life even more and I learned the hard way that “Sometimes the most hurtful thing is the silence of friends, not the words of enemies”

A Gleeful Surprise (Friday Favourites)

8 Feb

Despite having a crazy record-breaking snow storm in Toronto today, the weather hasn’t kept my spirits down. I am so excited about today’s Friday Favourites!!!

For the past few months I’ve been working with an amazing foundation called ‘The Sunshine Foundation.’ They work to fulfill dreams of children in Canada living with a permanent disability.

When I first contacted them, my initial dream was to fly out to LA to go meet Ellen Degeneres. Unfortunately after contacting back-and-forth we figured out that due to high demand the dream to meet Ellen would be quite hard and a lengthy process. So I decided to make another dream. My second dream was either to go to the set of ‘Glee’ and meet the cast or have the chance to meet Tyler Perry.

I don’t want to give away too much about which dream I’ve decided to pursue, but what I will say is that through working with the foundation I’ve had so many amazing experiences! I’ve had the chance to speak at the Winners/Homsense headquarters on their behalf, and I also had the rare opportunity to meet Naya Rivera from ‘Glee’. I had the chance to interview her for more than 25 minutes and we did a press event together. It was such a great opportunity and she was such a genuine and fun person to spend the day with.

The Gift!

This brings me to Friday Favourites! Yesterday I was sitting at home when I received a package in the mail. When I opened it I was so surprised at what I found. I was sent two official scripts from ‘Glee!’ Naya Rivera knows I am a huge fan of the show, so she had almost all of the cast members of ‘Glee’ sign the scripts for me. Some of the signatures included Jane Lynch, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Kevin McHale!

I know that this gift is truly invaluable and I’m so appreciative that they took the time to sign it and send it out to me. Thank you will never be enough but once again thank you thank you thank you for this amazing gift.

Happy Friday!
