Natalie (Song Sundays)

20 Jan

My song of the week is ‘Natalie’ by Bruno Mars.

Last Sunday I finally downloaded Bruno Mars’ latest album ‘Unorthodox Juxebox’ and after his last album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ I had very high expectations for his latest music. Luckily for me I wasn’t disappointed. The album was a great mix of pop, blues and a touch of reggae.

Besides his chart topper ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’, one song that really jumped out at me was ‘Natalie’. It first caught my attention because the title of the song is the same name as one of my best friends, so I had to listen to it first.

The song talks about a girl who took advantage of him and stole all of money and he’s talking about and plotting his revenge. I thought it was really interesting and very different from songs we’re used to hearing about, which generally deal with love and heartbreak. I’m not quite sure if this song was written about actual experiences in Bruno Mars’ life, but the the lyrics and the composition of the song really created an authentic feel and that’s why it’s my song of the week.

This week I was introduced to a new British band called ‘The Saturdays’. They have 11 top ten singles on the British charts and they’re slowly moving into the American market base. After hearing all of this I decided to give them a listen. Needless to say, they’re pretty good and their songs are extremely catchy. I have been playing their song ‘What About Us’ on repeat.

As they slowly invade America I’ve heard that they also have a new reality show on E! called ‘Chasing The Saturdays’ that’s starting very soon. I’m looking forward to watching that as well.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Song Sundays!!

6 Jan

Music has and will always be such an important aspect of my life. At the age of five I started playing piano and by the time I was 14 I was a grade eight classically trained pianist. Even though I was classically trained, I have a love for just about every genre of music. I constantly have my iTunes library playing and when it is on shuffle my music collection could range from Taylor Swift, to Kanye West, to Bob Marley, to my favourite singer of all time Beyonce!

So starting today I will be sharing my favourite song of the day every Sunday. This could range from the new top single that I’m absolutely loving to a throwback song from my childhood.

Waterfalls by TLCToday’s song of the day is ‘Waterfalls’ by TLC. Growing up TLC was right up there for me amongst some of my favourite music groups. Some of my other favs included N Sync, Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child and even for a while O- Town (remember them?) It’s hard for me to imagine that ‘Waterfalls’ was released back in 1995 when I was only two years old, but it is easily one of my favourite songs of all time and a definite classic. I have had this song on repeat all morning and I just can’t get enough!

I guess that’s it for now, I hope you guys will enjoy Song Sundays as much as I do.

2012 Mashup!

21 Dec

Like every year, it always surprises me how fast the time flies by. Now that it’s December 21st, I have started to reflect over some of the great music we had this year. I love top 40 music and although to some it may seem very annoying, I really enjoy the upbeat tempos and the addicting quality of it.

DJ Earworm!

One of my favorite things to look out for in December is DJ Earworm’s end-of-the-year music mashup. He takes the 25 most popular songs of the year and mixes them all into one new and amazing song. Take a listen 🙂
